According to rumors from Portugal, Manchester United and Arsenal may compete to recruit Vitinha from Porto, and the two English giants are the frontrunner to sign Vitinha.

The Man United and the North London team are prepared to activate the Porto starlet’s release clause, according to an article written in Daily Mail.

The release clause of Porto midfielder Vitinha, who played for Wolves during the 2020–21 season, is apparently ready to be triggered by both Manchester United and Arsenal.

The 22-year-old has made significant progress since returning to Portugal this season and is starting to make a case for himself ahead of the World Cup in Qatar in November.

At Molineux, Vitinha made 19 appearances, but he was unable to convince Wolves to give him a long-term contract as the players opted to move back to his motherland.

Vitinha has improved significantly since his return to the Estadio does Dragao, though. He was one of the top players in the competition last year and assisted Porto in winning the Primeira Liga.

Both United and Arsenal are prepared to pay Vitinha’s departure clause, according to Record, the first Portuguese publication to announce Liverpool’s interest in Darwin Nunez.

The clause, which is estimated to be worth £35 million, would render Porto powerless in their attempt to keep the player.

Erik Ten Hag has prioritized the midfield area at Man United and the Dutch coach is eager to sign a defensive as well as a box-to-box midfielder ahead of the transfer window.

Additionally, there have been rumors that United have discussed Vitinha with super-agent Jorge Mendes as they look into the viability of a trade.

As negotiations with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong continue, it is evident that United is looking for a central midfielder to strengthen the center of the pitch.

The Verdict

Man United predominantly wants to sign a CDM over a CM and despite the strong attachments with Frenkie de Jong Vitinha could solve the defensive midfield void.

The Red Devils have lacked a top-draw defensive midfielder over the years and grabbing hold of the Porto star will up the level of United’s performances.
