The Red Devils will end another trophyless season in a miserable way for the sixth consecutive time since the Europa League triumph back in 2017.

The Spanish giants summed up United’s season in an eye-opening way which wasn’t very surprising as they were already doubts placed into fans’ minds.

Manchester United were knocked out by the compact Atletico Madrid side last night at Old Trafford to basically put up the full stop on the Mancunian’s season.

Despite Ralf Rangnick making it clear to the media that his side shouldn’t be lost at the back and not let the visiting side score first, United players again exposed their weakness and let Simeone’s men score.

A season which many believed will be heading towards the right direction or to the next step, has apparently gone contrary to what they dreamt of.

One may point the finger at the club’s management for bringing in players with such a poor character and mentality.

However, there comes a time when all questions and criticism must be directed at the players on the field.

It must be cruel to the fans to see them watching their beloved team from all over the world and supporting them wholeheartedly, so perform in this manner and, most importantly, do not put up a fight to win it.

An early exit from the Carabao Cup and FA Cup really raised a lot of questions among the fans on the squad cohesiveness.

But the trust in the club and the players shattered the day when they got absolutely out shadowed by the Spanish side.

Cristiano Ronaldo came back to the club as the veteran within his impeccable maturity, certainly with an expectation to win silverware at Old Trafford.

But the stardom of the Portuguese felt very egoistic for some players as the unrest among the squad started to begin in the middle of the season.

Similarly, the two world-beaters Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho were added as the final piece of the puzzle for the current United team, but reality bit the fans hard as soon as they observed discord on the pitch.

As players often seemed bewildered with the ball at their feet, United never exhibited an identity of playing in a certain way. One might also claim that this Manchester United lineup never looked United.

The season is now on the verge of being a complete disaster, with Arsenal’s unwavering form in the Premier League indicating that a top-four finish is far from certain.

After having the big-games players on the roster and failing to deliver when they should, the Red Devils’ League form is also stinking right now.

The season could well entirely be done and dusted when they come back from their international break in early April to play Leicester City and drop a single point.

The odds are definitely against United and with Gunners who have three games in hand with a point ahead in fourth place, with United going to the Emirates in late April.

A protest could well be on the cards outside the stadium again with many of them slamming the board if the club fails to secure their place in the top 4.

Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, and many others are already out of contract in the summer but there could be more release of players if they went back into the Europa League.

Ronaldo won’t be opposed to leaving the club if that happened so and that could really be a massive blow to the club’s reputation.

United are in a worse position than ever and it could completely be wrecked if they missed out on next year’s Champions League.
