Manchester United will host their final game of the calendar year at Old Trafford against Burnley in the Premier League on Thursday night.

While the Red Devils struggle to beat a struggling Newcastle side in their previous game, Rangnick’s men are back at their home turf to face the Lancashire side. Burnley who has drawn four matches will look to avoid a defeat against United as they are one of the teams who is battling to escape from the relegation zone. Man United players will face a very aggressive side which is very much capable to win their duels aerially and on the ground. Sean Dyche’s side hasn’t been in action since their last game against West Ham which resulted in a 1-1 draw on December 12.

Burnley is currently placed in 18th in the League table ahead of the Thursday night fixtures, after remaining winless in their last 6 six games scoring only five goals prior to their win against Magpies, Sean Dyche will have his side very much prepared for the game and will pursue a point against a very vicious attacking side.

On the other hand, Manchester United are undefeated since November despite their poor performances against Newcastle, and being back with their home fans will give them the adrenaline rush to perform well on the pitch. However, the Clarets have missed their last three games due to postponements and had a 20-day and are very well-rested.

The Red Devils have also won their previous two meetings with Burnley, scoring at least two goals in each and keeping clean sheets in the last two games against the Clarets since January 2020.

Manchester United vs Burnley: Head-to-Head

Total games played between each side: 12

Manchester United wins: 7

Burnley wins: 1

Draws: 4

Last meetings: Mason Greenwood’s brace and Cavani’s late 93rd-minute goal were the highlights of our last match against Burnley. The emerging Man United star opened the scoreline in the second half. The 20-year-old started the game with a bang after he netted the ball in his first three Premier League matches. Since then the Academy Graduate has been in and out of the squad and hasn’t been able to showcase his super talent skills.

The other goal was scored by the Uruguayan striker in the stoppage time of the second half, with James Tarkowski scoring a header to equalize the scoreboard.

That was our second back-to-back win over Burnley with two clean sheets. Burnley, on the other side, has had a memorable victory away from home in January 2020.

Manchester United vs Burnley: Team News

Manchester United will be without Bruno Fernandes when they host Burnley at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

The Portuguese midfielder has been handed a one-match ban ahead of the game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the Premier League season during United’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle on Monday.

Man United will be again without Paul Pogba due to a thigh injury, while Victor Lindelof is absent after being tested positive for Covid-19 recently. Nemanja Matic and Luke Shaw are also in contention, but Ralf Rangnick is expected to resist the temptation to change his midfield two or defensive unit for Thursday’s contest.

As for Burnley, Ashley Barnes and Conor Roberts remain unavailable for selection, but the break has allowed the Clarets to recover Maxwell Cornet from injury, and the Ivorian should be in the starting lineup. There are not expected to be any surprises in the away side’s XI, with Chris Wood joining Cornet in attack, while Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Dwight McNeil will play in the wide areas.

Dyche must decide between Jack Cork and Josh Brownhill to play alongside Ashley Westwood in midfield, and the latter is just expected to get the nod at Old Trafford.

Score Predictions:

Burnley’s rock-solid defensive unit and their ability to win the duels will be something that would worry Rangnick as he cannot drop any further points. Sean Dyche’s men have had quite a long break ahead of this game and they will be ready to rage at Old Trafford. But the back is back at the Theater of Dreams might turn out to be a difficult night for the away side.

Manchester United fans will be expecting a response after the terrible show at St, James’s Park. Rangnick boys will be desperate to get the three points and make their fans go home will smile on their faces. Manchester United will win 2-0 against the Clarets but United players will have to work tirelessly and win the physical battle against Sean Dyche’s men
