Edinson Cavani seems to be desperate to leave Old Trafford and join Barcelona in January.

According to The Sport, The Uruguayan is edging closer to the Old Trafford exit door with a transfer to Spanish heavyweights Barcelona almost complete.

The 34-year-old striker has been included in the Red Devil’s squad for their Premier League clash against Newcastle on Monday evening but isn’t expected to be named in the starting XI. Last season Cavani has a very strong first campaign with the Red Devils, scoring 17 goals in all competitions. The Uruguayan was convinced to stay for another season in exchange for a higher wage. However this season he failed to capitalize due to his delayed tendon injury.

This could be one of his last actions in a United shirt, with an 18-month deal to Barcelona well on track to be completed as per Sport

The report adds that a final decision will be made in the ‘next few hours, with Cavani said to already have given his approval on the deal which would see him take a substantial salary cut.

Despite being available on a free transfer next summer, the Catalan club is reportedly eager to sign the Uruguayan in the January transfer window.

With Cavani set to leave Man Utd on a free at the end of the season, Barcelona is hoping that the Premier League club take the decision at a meeting on Tuesday to discuss his contract termination. The 34-year-old is eager to lead the Catalan attack meanwhile, his departure could save United more than 1.5 million in wages.
