Rooney linked with Man Utd exit as Stoke rubbish reports of interest

The Potters were believed to be among those considering an approach for the Red Devils captain, but claim to have made no contract with the forward

Wayne Rooney continues to be linked with a summer move away from Manchester United, but Stoke hold no interest in the forward at present.

With the 31-year-old having fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, it is expected that he will go in search of regular game time when the transfer window re-opens.

Various landing spots have been mooted for the England international, from a possible return to his roots at Everton to a foreign adventure in Major League Soccer or the Chinese Super League.

Stoke were also reported to be among those eager to discuss a deal for the vastly-experienced striker, but Potters chief executive Tony Scholes claims there is no substance to those rumours.

He said in The Sentinel : “What I can’t do is shed any light on where the rumours have come from.“That happens at this time of year.
