Do Manchester proud
The feeling in Stockholm is one of insignificance. What is effectively United’s biggest game in six years has understandably been rendered inconsequential by Monday night’s numbing news.
Ed Woodward’s correspondence to United staff members was sympathetic and spirited: “Manchester is a resilient city and I am sure that its people will defy the wishes of those who have perpetrated this awful crime and demonstrate what a magnificent place this is.” It could have been a coded message to the players.
Supporting other English clubs in Europe is not usually encouraged but the circumstances might prompt some to make an exception on Wednesday night. If United do lift the Europa League then the decision not to hold an open-top bus parade perhaps should be reconsidered.
